Data Repositories

Data repositories exist to facilitate the sharing and archiving of datasets. Thus, they can be an important source of previously-generated datasets for analysis, as well as a means of preserving your data and complying with funder requirements to make your datasets publicly available.

A few things to consider when selecting a data repository:

  • Some repositories are subject specific and may be commonly used in a discipline; others are more general.
  • Some allow uploads; others are primarily for downloading.
  • Some may have limits on longevity of data storage.
  • Some are free to use while others require payment to offset costs of long-term storage.
